FUNCY-SSB joins the Solid4B Cluster

We are pleased to announce that FUNCY‑SSB is now part of the Solid4B Cluster—a growing European network that brings together research projects working on next‑generation solid‑state batteries. The cluster enables participating teams to share insights, discuss challenges early on, and work more efficiently toward safer and more sustainable battery technologies.

About the Solid4B Cluster

The Solid4B Cluster was launched in 2022 alongside the SPINMATE project and has since expanded to include a broad range of European research initiatives in the field of solid‑state batteries. All project members regularly exchange expertise on Gen‑4a/4b SSBs and lithium‑ as well as beyond‑lithium systems.

The cluster brings together teams working with various solid‑state electrolyte concepts—polymer‑based, oxide‑based, sulfide‑based, halide‑based and hybrid systems, including quasi‑solid electrolytes. This thematic diversity creates an ideal environment for knowledge sharing and cross‑project learning.

Why FUNCY‑SSB fits well into the cluster

FUNCY‑SSB focuses on improving solid‑state electrolytes through tailored material combinations and surface‑coating strategies that help stabilize interfaces and enhance ion transport. These research directions align closely with the focus areas of many existing Solid4B projects, making FUNCY‑SSB a natural addition to the network.

Shared themes & synergies

  • Similar challenges, shared expertise:
Many cluster projects—like FUNCY‑SSB—work on improving interface stability, ion transport and overall performance of solid‑state electrolytes. Coordinated discussions help identify promising approaches more quickly.
  • Broad methodological landscape:
Because Solid4B unites teams working on different electrolyte classes, all members gain access to a wide range of material strategies and experience.
  • Sustainability as a common objective:
Several projects in the cluster, including FUNCY‑SSB, address environmental and economic aspects of future battery materials—an important foundation for scalable, responsible innovation.
  • Active European collaboration:
Regular meetings and workshops support constructive discussions and efficient knowledge exchange, as demonstrated by projects such as SOLVE, which highlight how collaborative environments accelerate progress.

A practical benefit for both sides

By joining the Solid4B Cluster, FUNCY‑SSB becomes part of a straightforward and well‑connected exchange with other European teams working on solid‑state battery technologies. The cluster gains additional expertise in material‑ and interface‑focused research, while FUNCY‑SSB benefits from insights into different electrolyte concepts and development strategies already explored by other members. This collaborative setting helps all partners share experiences earlier, compare approaches more effectively and tackle common challenges in a more coordinated way.
